I just saw Chinatown for the first time, and can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Knowing ahead of time there was a sequel I looked it up and was surprised to see it had gotten poor reviews. Now I'm sure this is no Chinatown, but is it as bad as they say?

Watched it for the first time last night, and sadly fell asleep for a good portion of the first hour. It's just about the biggest dropoff from an original to a sequel I've ever seen. People say don't compare it to the original but the problem is you have to have seen Chinatown or you'll be a bit lost on the plot's backstory, and therefore it makes it impossible not to think of the original film when you watch it.
