Judging from the discussion forums, this seems to be a movie that is so bad that it becomes good or good pulpy movie that does not take itself seriously (classic film-making) This is going to come on HBO India in a few days so thought of asking this...

I enjoyed the movie because I thought the characters were likeable (not so perfect that you have to like them but because they seem like legitimate people) and it actually had me somewhat nervous, which is something I haven't been able to say about a horror/thriller movie in a LONG time.

shareThe characters in this movie are what makes it so endearing and great. Val and Earl are one of those rare match ups that can really "make" a movie work. All of the other main supporting actors are great also. The story is far from bad, it's actually quite good and the creature design is awesome! The practical effects will also help it stand the test of time as it has been doing for so long now. In the end it's the characters that make this movie, and is what separates a bad B movie from a great one.

It is definitely not "so bad, it's good." It's a legitimately good film. Not bad by any means. It's very light-hearted, has a lot of humor and heart, and doesn't take itself overly serious. It's also very well-written (especially when it comes to the dialog and interactions between the characters), solidly directed and it has some wonderful performances.
And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

One of the most re-watchable movies I've ever come across. It's just a really easy going flick that has humor, good performances, solid one liners, and mixes all that with the suspense of the monsters. Can pop this one on before bed and just drift off (first half of the movie is stronger than the 2nd in my opinion..just a terrific set up to the conflict)
shareIts hard to pin-point whats so good about it. It isn't scary, and not super funny. However, any time I see its on TV I end up watching it. Its better than the sum of its parts I guess.

It's a good movie, very entertaining.
It's not trying to be The Godfather or Alien.
Take it the way it was intended and you'll have a great time.
Wonderfully cast also.
The awesome inter-cast chemistry made this film immensely enjoyable.

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .
It's funny and entertaining, with likable characters and engaging plot. Not overly complicated or dark, just a perfect B movie.
