Why is this movie so hated?! It's just as good
Sure it's not your typical Rocky boxing movie but he's getting older and his life is changing. I thought 5 was great and some great acting bits from Talia Shire and Stallone.

shareI 100% agree and honestly it seems like as the years go on, there seems to be more appreciation for this sequel. I think it's one of the best sequels in the franchise. Have you seen the Director's cut?
shareA lot of people dont like it mainly because of the street fight scene they find it to be incredibly dumb and corny. Also for the hiphop throughout the movie instead of the classic rocky music and also Rocky's son ruined the movie. I also get the sense that people just cant stand the fact that rocky went bankrupt and wound up back to square one and didn't step back into the ring.
Personally I think the movie is great. Was my favorite growing up thats for sure.
Personally I’m glad he didn’t get in the ring. I couldn’t deal with yet another movie with Adrian whimpering and whining about rocky fighting again.
shareRocky V always struck me as the Alien 3 of its respective franchise. Instead of killing Newt, Hicks, and Bishop off right from the jump, we have Rocky Balboa suffering from severe head injuries from his bout with Ivan Drago and then losing all of his fortune. In other words, both movies pretty much shit all over the otherwise triumphant endings of its predecessors in favor of something darker and more nihilistic. This of course is supposedly all under the guise of "going back to the basics". However, both Rocky and Ellen Ripley's sacrifices and struggles were at the end of the day, all for naught to put things into perspective.
shareIt's not quite as egregious a dump as the one Alien 3 took on its predecessor, but I definitely take your point.
I don't know if you're familiar with the BBC sitcom, Only Fools and Horses, but it reminds me of that show. After several seasons of the lead character promising his younger brother "This time next year, we're going to be millionaires Rodney" they finally reached that goal, only to return a few years later, having lost everything, thus making it feel like their whole 'journey' had been a complete waste.
Still, taking Rocky back to his street roots, humanised him again, and I could certainly buy that his useless brother-in-law had made some bad deals with a dodgy accountant which blew away Rocky's fortune, and bringing Rocky back to his lowly origins wasn't anywhere near as bad as killing off Newt. That was unforgivable.
My only issue with this movie is that it doesn't have a long enough run time to really get this kind of story across. The work print version is alot better but it seems like we will never see that with all the remastered bells and whistles unfortunately
shareit is great rocky film.
rocky balboa is the crap rocky film that should be bash, not this.
rocky v is great rocky film and only philistine disagrees!!
What Went Wrong With Rocky V: Why It's By Far The Franchise's Worst Movie
https://screenrant.com/what-went-wrong-with-rocky-5/
Rocky V is considered the worst Rocky movie, and here's a breakdown of everything that went wrong, causing it to gain its infamous reputation.
At the beginning of Rocky V, it is revealed that Paulie unknowingly signed power of attorney over to Rocky's accountant, who lost all the boxer's money due to some bad investments."
Could you imagine if Paulie were in GOODFELLAS and he pulled this shit?? He would've ended up in the trunk like Billy Batts..LOL
I thought the movie was alright. I think it was the first time they put a real boxer (played by Tommy Morrison) in the movie, which was pretty cool. But it didn't really do anything remarkable or inventive with the story. It was just Rocky is poor again... blah, blah, blah.
I think the Creed movie is better. I haven't seen Creed 2 though.
Rocky Balboa was alright too. The speech Rocky gave to his son in Rocky Balboa is really good. One of the best movie speeches ever.
In case you haven't seen it, here it is... starts at about the 2:00 mark.

It wasn't the finality the series deserved.
shareAnd yet it's way better and more memorable than Rocky Balboa. This movie just needs a few tweaks but even the rap music seems okay now.
They should have brought back the kid from IV for the airport arrival and got someone else to play older Junior because Sage was terrible. They also could have explained going broke better and tied it to Paulie's Robot. Russians hacked it and the robot stole all Rocky's money to run off with Johnny 5.
It's okay but I wouldn't call it better than Rocky Balboa.
shareRocky Balboa is as mundane and boring a Rocky film as it gets (which near impossible to do). No stakes, no impact, no new interesting characters, nothing memorable or rewatchable about it. Rocky V had a couple of great scenes and one the best versions of Gonna Fly Now. Talia should have been nominated for an best supporting actress for Rocky V, thats how good she was in it but because of the negative buzz surrounding the movie, no one bothered to promote that aspect of it.
