who else HATED Charlottes mother?

I love this movie but I hated, loathed, despised Charlotte's mother. She was a terrible Mother in my opinion.

She was very self centered. Snotty, slutty and just down right mean sometimes. Like cutting Charlottes sandwiches! Why did she want to humiliate her child?

Why be mean to the only man that ever gave a hoot about her?

Why kiss the guy she knows her daughter is in love with??

Cause she was a crappy mean Mom who liked to compete with her own daughter!

She made Charlotte be the Mother until Charlotte finally screwed up and then just comes down on her so hard and HITS her!! She should have thanked her for taking up all the slack that she left behind.

I really think that she wanted her daughter to be inferior to her so that she could keep the spotlight on herself.

Still LOVE the movie though -

I love Rachel!!! As a single mother who has made my own share of mistakes, all I can say is you do the best you can. My FAVORITE scene, from the first time I saw this movie is "Ohhhhh - we are going to play my favorite game! Who is the worst mother in the world!! Who could it be....let me think....hmmmm..." My daughter (who is now grown) and I used to laugh and laugh at that.

She wasn't a very good mother, but the two times I wished I was there so I could hit her were when she kissed Joe and when she slapped Charlotte.

Actually, I can kind of forgive the slap since it was a sort of reflex action to the insult, but the fact that she never apologized to Charlotte after that really rankles at me. Charlotte was only telling her a few home truths after all and she knew that.
