Poor Piggy!

I just watched this and what they did to Piggy was awful. I was nearly crying when he died and when they broke his glasses.

but you knew it was gonna to happen eventually.

Are you trying to develop a sense of humor or am I going deaf?

reply

I VAGUELY remember that quote {Are you trying to develop a sense of humor or am I going deaf?}

I'm thinking Indiana Jones said this when he was in Club Obi Wan. Could I get a more specific time of when he said it, please?

Y'wanna be even more depressed? When they made the first movie, some of the meaner kids had poor Hugh Edwards, who played Piggy, half-convinced they REALLY WERE going to drop a rock on him, and that the director had okayed it because it was his last shot in the film and they didn't need him anymore. Of course, they did nothing of the kind.

I felt bad when the kid dropped the rock on his head. That was sick and wrong.

In the story, Piggy represented civilization, its rules, laws, and knowledge. That's why they need his glasses to light the fire, the one tool they have. When his glasses are broken early in the story, it symbolizes the boys slipping away and when he's killed, it represents their fall into madness and barbarism.

reply

^exactly. I'm just starting to read this book again (I read it in high school...a good five years ago). It's a great story and extremely disturbing (for me anyway). It was very sad what they did to Piggy and I flinched in disgust and upset when Piggy was hit with the rock.

Yeah, I thought he was like Vern, too. Of course, Vern wasn't as big and he didn't wear glasses.

reply

[deleted]

Wow, that is depressingly ironic given the message of the film.

Sometimes, the best answer is a more interesting question.

reply

Hey well if you feel bad maybe you should go help people like piggy there are probably tons of them at your school or work...but we watched this in school and most kids where rewinding it over and over laughing at it..i *beep* hate watching movies at school it makes the movie worse cause all the kids are dumb *beep*

reply

Piggy is law, civilization, and intelligence. When he dies, everything he represents dies with him.

reply

Yeah basically they're screwed without him, infact they were to begin with because they never listened to him.

Kids sometimes laugh when they see violent scenes because it makes them nervous. The laughter comforts them.

reply

I didnt like piggy, I thougt he was a annoying kid and couldnt wait for somebody to break his glasses. When they killed him I laughed.

Wait im confused in the book a big rock thrown by roger hits piggy knocking him 40 feet to his death what happens in this?

reply

Piggy starts crying and says something anoying and when your just about to puke someone pushes a rock over a cliff, Then Rahlp screams "NOOOOOOO". When the rock hits his head it bounces of like a ballon and piggys head bleeds...

reply

Best part in the movie is when the giant rock falls on piggy. it kils him instantly with nice blood effects. the dude is like "NOOOO!" but it falls and kill shim anyway, best part.

reply

Ah, I see some of Jack's kids are here. Mother would be so proud of you little charmers.

reply

God, you guys are sick.

reply

What's so funny about a kid, like ten or eleven or something, with the rest of his life to be fullfilled getting hit on the head with a gaint rock and his blue eyes starring up to the sky with blood forming around him?? Adults getting hit by cars i can understand but children?? You guys must be about eight or nine. Try watching this movie alone when your older.

reply

Some people don't see the severity off his death. He was the last intellegent one on the island and when he died all vvalues left on the island died with him. I often find it amusing to see how people ddo have the same ideals of Jack how "His speaches were boring" and "He's annoying and I didn't care". Seeing people like this in the world just proves how William Golding was right about how humanity is a shallow and unforgiving thing. Funny how a young boy like I am can actually understand the whole purpose they offed Piggy (it was the marking that the itelligence we have isn't sacred to anyone). And the sad thing is Jack lived and I bet he didn't really care.

Even though Piggy was just a fictional character his traits are very humain, and often uncared for.

reply

Personally, I saw Piggy, in the film, as a whiney little kid, the type you just want to through rocks at. He was sensible in the film, despite being undermined and pushed around. In the film he whined and cried, that's about all. the film was ok, but most of the characters were altered or, like the three littluns that were playing with sand castles in the book (Percival, Henry and Johnny)and the mulberry faced littlun, were dropped altogether.

i agree. i think simon is more interesting and the part of the book where he talks to the pigs head is really powerful. i haven't seen the movie yet but if simon isn't well-explained i think i'll be disappointed because i liked him.

reply

I agree. In the book, he stood up for himself, but in the film, he was a wimp that cried when someone broke one of his glasses. I really don't remember him being the voice of reason in this film as much as the 1963 version or book. He seemed much more like just a crybaby.

"he was a wimp that cried when someone broke one of his glasses."

Yeah, 'cause if you're on an island like that, and someone effectively blinds you by breaking your glasses, there's no reason to express any sadness. Just man up, and extract vengeance while not being able to see. Its what Vin Diesel would have done, after all.

Bunch of loathsome degenerates posting in this thread, I must say.

I agree, some people here really make me disgussed with mankind.

reply

I agree too, it doesn't matter if it's just a book or film or something it's the moral of the thing, i found Piggy's death shocking and upsetting. His death was symbolic and it needed to happen in the book but it still made me sad, i liked Piggy !

reply

I hated the way they picked on Piggy, usually when i see sum 1 cry on TV i just start laughing but this was different dunno why, it was just so upsetting, i cant stand it when people take the mick out of big people and piggy looked so innocent like, when they dropped that boulder on his head that was just sick and cruel.

Simons death was equally barbaric it was so disturbing to watch. Buuut overall it was a good film, i never read the book before either is it n e good?

I haven't even read the book or seen the movie yet, but it already sounds incredibly powerful from what I keep reading and hearing.

I'm interested in jumping on this bandwagon now.

Stuff like this reminds me of "Movie Poop Shoot.com" from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

reply

I had to read it for school and i thought it was going to be terrible.

I loved the book!

I wanted to see the movie, and i loved it .

It wasn't that accurate to the book, but it was still awsome. I hated that piggy died, but i thought it was kinda funny because it was so fake!

(maybe, u cant understand my writting)

Piggy wanted to be in the group of JACK and ralph didnt wanted it. If piggy were on the group of Jack, he wouldnt be dead. Ralph just Though on his group, and that was stupid, because the ralphs group were just two guys, and in the jacks group were like 30 guys

reply

I don't think you were paying attention the movie...Jack's group and become savages... very violent and murderous! The only reason Piggy was considering being in Jack's group was because he was scared of them and thought it was the only way to be on their good side...but Ralph was trying to advise him not to stoop down to their level.

Even if they would have joined Jacks group the boys would still have been cruel him, just like they were before....and eventually they would have all turned on each other as well... as they can become plain psychopaths!
