devastating scene... SPOILER, obviously...

When Wendy approaches her daughter about her attitude. Such a smooth move from bittersweet comedy to a sentimental but painfully real drama.

"Doctor Harris told us you had two weeks to live."

Great work by Steadman and Horrocks.

I had pretty much the exact same conversation with my mother 5 years ago. Mike Leigh is the master of subtle sentimentality and human truths. I remember thinking there was no hope then, watching the film now it filled me with an overwhelming feeling of hope, however odd that may sound. Truly one of the most bittersweet Brit masterpieces out there.

^ this. Me too. We all hit roadblocks, and even the most resilient of us can sometimes feel "Down" for a period of time.

Agreed. It's possibly my favourite scene of the film and is why I love Alison Steadman so much.

Why do you refuse to remember me?

This is Life Is Sweet's standout scene in terms of the performances and brilliant use of close-ups.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.

It was an amazing scene.
