Jacob's Ladder Remake Planned

Adrian Lyne's 1990 cult hit Jacob's Ladder is set for the remake treatment, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter. Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train) is providing the latest draft of the screenplay.

The original film starred Tim Robbins as a Vietnam veteran living in New York City named Jacob Singer. Haunted by his past, Singer begins a descent into madness that threatens to blend reality and delusion with the threat of a Dante-inspired damnation.

The new take on the property is said to reexamine the themes of the original against a contemporary backdrop. When a Stranger Calls screenwriter Jake Wade Wall is said to have worked on an earlier draft of the new script.

Michael Gaeta, Mickey Liddell, Jennifer Monroe and Alison Rosenzweig are set to produce. No director is currently attached, but check back for details as they become available.

luvie2003 I hear your pain what is it with all these remakes nowadays?

reply

Hollywood is running out of ideas, out of creativity and originality. Why remake something that already made its point the first time?

reply

I know I don't get it either, now they are remaking Robocop,Highlander,Child's play,Mad Max,Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,Godzilla[Again] and there has been like 5 remakes alone this year already Fright Night,Total Recall etc

reply

....which were all fairly lame.

reply

Good to hear lol,do you like any remakes at all love cats

reply

The last one that wasn't a total waste of time was Dawn of the Dead in 2004, but that wasn't exactly one of the all time greats either.

OH GOOD!

Jesus Christ. It's like they watched the first ten minutes and said "Who should we get to do the remake? Well, the Midnight Meat Train had subway scenes, so there's only one man for the job!"

These bastards!

reply

lol @NoodleLizard I know silly isn't it!

reply

I'm not against remakes in principle. In fact I believe certain films need to be remade... Jacob's Ladder, however, is not one of them. The original was a great piece of cinema.

You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.

reply

@ Lunatic_Constellations Yea exactly,Did you read my other film list that film makers have remade in last couple of years to coming out next year a few posts back?

reply

I think some of those (TMNT, Godzilla) could be good just because so many different things could be done with the source material. Others (Carrie, Suspiria, Mortal Kombat) are worthwhile because the original films were pretty bad IMO.
Jacob's Ladder, however... No, just no.

You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.

reply

I take it you agree with other ones I said then that shouldn't be made-I think they *beep* up Fright Night+Total recall. And I think they should of left alone Robocop that is out next year

reply

Fright Night is iffy, but Total Recall? No thanks.

One movie I really, really want to see remade, though, is Carpenter's Prince of Darkness. That could've been one of the great horror films ever with a tighter script and better acting.

You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.

reply

I didn't mind the original but wouldn't say no to a remake, the Footloose remake was *beep* and Dirty Dancing+Fame they should of left them alone.

reply

Footlooose remake actually got better critical response than the original. haha
I wouldn't watch either, though, personally.

You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.

reply

did it I'm reading some now it's mixed lol-where you from?Im in UK in kent

reply

I'm not trying to make friends here. Nothing personal, that's just not what I'm here for.

reply

A remake of Prince of Darkness?

Ok, that's the 2nd terrible opinion of yours in this thread alone.

Do you even watch movies???

Yes, you certainly are a lunatic.

reply

Carrie and Suspiria were bad?

Ok, it's your opinion.

But your opinion is wrong.

reply

robertwcole that did make me laugh lol,They shouldn't be even making a remake they should just leave it alone

did you read the other 80's remakes they have done and ones that are in the works at the mo?I mean they have just made RoboCop comes out next year that is such a classic in it's own right!

reply

[deleted]

@ robertwcole Yea I agree with what your saying,I also like the actor Sam Rockwell except that film:Confessions of a Dangerous Mind I found that really boring and crap. You do get every now and again new idea's but not many-also with
Just look at Pacific Rim this summer. Totally Original Movie.
$190 mil. budget. It made $38.8 mil. Opening Weekend, and came in 3rd.
Second place went to Grownups 2. Go Figure. It's all due to inflation now I mean they said biggest bond film they said was new Skyfall as made over a billion but that isn't tech true-the biggest bond film with adjusted inflation is Thunderball!I mean back in the day back to the future made $383,874,862 in today's money that would be what 800 million give or take?

reply

reply

robertwcole I see what your saying like there is are some episodes of the Twilight Zone that was made in to the films like Red Box,The Truman Show, AgentMothman95 I know what you mean it is stupid

reply

[deleted]

Yea Rob that's what I was referring to,The episode that was based off The Truman Show was the 80's episode:“Special Service” where you from :]

reply

While I think this is a terrible idea, I'd totally put dollars on John Goodman being cast as the chiropractor.

reply

John Goodman is a good actor, maybe he could convince them not to make it?

reply

[deleted]

This and the Videodrome remake will be the worst remake mistakes Hollywood ever takes. Stop ruining the fantastic directors original vision, you ass-holes.

reply

yep def agree there mattiasflgrtll6, did you have a goods Xmas/new year

reply

Christmas and New Year was pretty good, though the latter half of Christmas break overall hasn't been the best. Yesterday just before school began was awful.

As for remakes, I'm not always against them. If the director remaking the movie knows what he/she's doing, they can be not only just as good, but sometimes even better than the original. For example, the original Inglorious Basterds was overly goofy and dumb as hell, whereas Tarantino's version is very tightly written and fun.

reply

Yikes.

Both of the films you mention (JL and VD) were as effective as they were because of both the story AND the director. I imagine a "remake" today would have a very different feel in both departments. Sadly.
