The Chemist Guy is Jesus?

So everything weird that happened can mostly be chalked up to Jacob's hallucinations and battle between heaven and hell, sure. But the whole "bad trip" thing in 'nam was real. So did he really hallucinate the real chemist guy who gave him the proper explanation? Or was that guy like Jesus who saved his life and then showed him the truth? Or something else equally rooted in nonsense?

Nobody in the film is ‘Jesus’ but the chemist did seem to be imparting knowledge of what happened and so was a friendly afterlife entity, like Louie the chiropractor.

No, he wasn't.

I think the story he gave was true. What was left out was that when he found out what happened to Jacob's group, he committed suicide.
