Are they telling the truth though? The truth really isn’t that important. It doesn’t matter if they actually believe what they are reviewing is bad, as long as they can make it entertaining.
Sigh, I miss old critic so much! Nowadays he comes off as too pretentious and optimistic. He never used to be like that! He used to always get angry and tear apart almost every obscure 80s and 90s film he reviewed. What the fuck happened to him? Nowadays, it's popular well known films from the 2000s and 2010s and there's little to no anger involved, yet people are fine with that? There's no humor to be found if he's preachy and not angry, that why old NC worked. Look, I know everyone has to change things up, but NC isn't himself when he's praising films, instead of bashing them. Also, he needs to go back to reviewing more poorly received films. There's a lot of them from the 2000s and 2010s like Epic Movie and Furry Vengeance that I would love to see him tear apart so badly and it doesn't have to be the same 80s and 90s cheese he reviewed back in the late 2000s to mid 2010s; it could be any bad film from the 2000s or 2010s, regardless if they're obscure or not; but no, it's popular animated CGI films, instead. I really hope for 2023, the NC goes back to his roots and starts reviewing more poorly received films. Much better than what the no talent hacks on YouTube are doing, nowadays!
Its funny how AVGN has remained the same yet people are so sick of him and call his new episodes bad, yet people are fine with modern NC reviewing more positively received films? That defeats the whole purpose of the "I remember it, so you don't have to" motto. Would it kill him to maybe every once in awhile review something bad or mediocre and just tear it apart, for old time sakes? I mean it doesn't have to be like that with every new episode, but at least go back to your roots, every once in awhile and let out that anger! I mean if he's reviewing Jimmy Neutron and Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs and not getting pissed, then what's the point of him staying true to his character? He was doing great, until around 2018-2019 and then the whole pandemic did something to him.
