Creepiest scene?

I think for me it's definitely when Beverley visits her old house with the old lady/Pennywise. *shudders* That face....

reply

Still the Georgie scene. The shock surprise of seeing Pennywise's face just appear in the storm drain darkness. Bright white with that grin and those intense eyes.

reply

Definitely this scene for me. The fact that Georgie is so naive about the danger makes it much creepier too.

reply

For some reason that scene never came across as being creepy or even scary. Even when I was a kid I thought it was stupid in the sense that even at Georgies age, there was no way in hell I would talk to a strange clown no less one in a storm drain.I could have lost my favorite toy down there and as soon as he popped up I would have ran away or kept my distance or maybe get a stick and poke him. Never would I engage in conversation or reach for something. I always saw as a sad scene because of the gruesome way he died made worse when reading the book and hearing the details. I wish I had the same experience as others approach the scene, but every time I watched it I was thinking about how stupid he was for engaging a clown in a storm drain, and this is when I was about 8 years old. On the other hand I always wonder what would have happened if George stuck to his not taking things from strangers rule and went about his way.

reply

Georgie's encounter at the start and the photo coming to life with Pennywise somersaulting down the street towards your face.

reply

Should also add the blood coming out of Georgie's photo and the wink. Extremely unnerving!

But yes both scenes you you both mentioned are very creepy as well.

reply

The library scene where Pennywise taunts Ritchie ("Prince Albert in a can" etc....) by making thousands of balloons drop from the ceiling and burst in people's faces.

Thanks to a similar childhood incident (minus the blood of course) I have raging Globophobia.... making it one of the most horrific scenes Iv ever watched haha. Can NEVER see go to a wedding where a net-ful of balloons descends on the dancefloor without thinking of that damn scene!

Haha oh wow! Personally I found that scene more funny that anything. A bit of slight comic relief! Although Pennywise's appearance is still terrifying haha

Virtually all of Pennywise's scenes except for the two Comedic ones: the Library, and "Kiss Me FatBoy!"

It was Belch.

reply

The library scene cracks me up! I find it the funniest part of the movie! I just love that whole scene. Balloons popping and the blood splattering every where yet only one person can see it. I don't know why I find it so funny but it's such a great scene.

The blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot of Pennywise right before he attacks the little girl at the beginning of the film.

@OldFriendOfTheChristys:

Hell yeah.

Good pick. One of my favorites.

The scene with the little girl at the beginning is scary. She is so innocent and we all know there is trouble when we see the clown but she smiles so big. Watching this as a parent it's even more terrifying. Then the mom can't find her.

reply

This. Definitely the creepiest one.

Whores will have their trinkets.

reply

Yep. It doesn't get much scarier than that, but thankfully it's there or thereabouts for the majority of the film.

I also love the part after adult Belv runs away from her old house and we see Pennywise clowning at the door for a bit before going inside. For all its lack of scariness, I still find it unsettling.

It's the only part of the film that is creepy just because it's a clown, because I don't find clowns that creepy on their own.

Op, that's definitely the creepiest scene for me. I imagine if I were in Bevy's shoes, I would freeze with fear after realising the sweet ol' lady was a sham.
Also, the scene in which the kids are looking at the black and white photograph and Pennywise appears and begins doing all these acrobatics, then realizes the children are watching them and growls is quite scary.

reply

I agree, that was really creepy. I thought the scene in the chinese restaurant where gross things started appearing on their plates was disturbing.

reply

Eddie in the shower. Of course, when you actually start to think about it, it doesn't make sense. Like, why wouldn't Pennywise just kill him right then and there?

reply

Because he feeds on fear - scaring the kid was a 5-star meal for him.

reply

He does not feed on fear. He says that fear makes you taste better. Little kids are easier to scare, so that's why he goes after them; they scare easier and more deeply, so they taste better.

Whores will have their trinkets.

reply

So many! I've seen this movie tons of times.

The first one that comes to my mind is the scene at Bev's house and the sink. It's so frightening when she sees all the blood and her dad doesn't. He touches the sink, gets blood on his hand and then touches Bev's face. She appears so shocked, grossed out and terrified her dad doesn't see the blood.

Ben & Bev as adults and they kiss upstairs. Bev is actually IT. This reminds me of the famous bathroom scene in The Shining. So creepy!

Eddie in the shower and IT appears from the drain. I often laugh at this as how casual and comical Pennywise is but poor Eddie is scared out of his mind! Putting myself in his place makes it more scary.

The scene down in the tunnels and Georgie is calling Bill. My heart goes out to Bill and we all know it isn't Georgie. This is frightening because IT can be anyone you love.

This all I can think of now. But the whole movie is creepy and wonderful! I wasn't excited about the remake but I am now.

reply

what about the scene where pennywise turns into a doberman pincher and is about to kill koontz that one was really scary but i was used to it

reply

Richie with the werewolf and Pennywise in the school basement. Especially when Pennywise taunts Richie with It's razor-sharp fangs. -Then begins to advance! I was just thinking, I wouldn't like to get eaten/die down there...

"That's it. It bit into his arm-pit. Like It wanted to eat him, man. Like It wanted to eat his heart."

reply

For me, it was the group at the table in the Chinese Restaurant and they open the Fortune Cookies. The worst one was the baby bird dying. It always made sick.

Here is one thing creepy about the bathroom scene. After all the blood comes back and we hear the clown chanting you will die if you try. What he says is not so creepy it's the distorted voice. It's bubbly and sounds like he is talking in the water. Not to mention the bloody water bubbling from the drain and moving to the sound of his voice. And in my opinion here is the creepiest thing about the first scene with the little girl. First we see penny wise with a smile then the sheet flows in front of him. And then in the next split second we see him he is glaring at the little girl. You can see the look on her face when she also sees that sneer. A few people have complained that penny wise was not like the book and that in the book he was more subtle. I thought penny wise was creepy in the film. I read the novel a while back and cannot say whether or not he seemed different than the movie. I heard in the remake something about them toning down the clown creep thing and making it more a manifestation of their fears. I want them to keep the terrifyying idea of penny wise in clown form most of the time. Also one of the best scenes in the film was penny wise in the photo album. When i really think about it rationally it is not one of the most action packed scenes but it came across so creepy. The fact that penny wise is just creeping along in the background. It's almost like i was thinking that the kids were asking for him to notice them by staring at him and getting his attention. Almost like why not shut the album right away. Guess they were mesmerized. Another creepy thing about this scene it makes me wonder if in that album scene did all the others see him as part of the show or were th kids looking at the album the only ones who could see him. It's creepy to think of the people in the album doing there thing and seeing it and thinking he was a normal clown.

But the photo album started turning on its own, which means it was Pennywise himself doing that to mess with them. Once they see him in the picture, he's innocently goofing off minding his own business in the background (Supposedly) then he suddenly makes that monstrous snarl at them pretty much telling them "Yeah, I see you!" and runs up to the forefront making his threatening monologue.

But the creepiest scenes for me are:
1. The opening backyard scene
2. Georgie
3. The canal (Ben's encounter)
4. The school scenes (Shower and the Basement)
5. The graveyard - though I love Pennywise/Tim Curry's delivery of the line: "Ex'CEPT! For the one! On the end! That's already taken. Sor-ray" (He just sounds sophisicated and wicked at the same time)

Yes, the Chinese restaurant scene. It highlighted how It didn't even need to focus on 1 person's fear to attack, but It could attack them *all* at the same time each with something different if It wanted. The scattered blood, the roach and crab claw thing both running around, the eye watching them, the dying baby bird, and the emerging spider... something for everyone.
