'Pe.. pe..pe...permanent damage'

Am I the only one who thinks this was a badly acted scene? The faux-stutter was so artificial Anjelica Huston did not quite capture the terror of the scene. I almost burst out laughing when she said: "Pe.. pe..pe...permanent damage" Im sure there's another way of making that line more natural and more authentic.

Yeah, I'll agree with you, OP. This scene always rung false with me, too.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

Considering the situation, I *do* find that type of stuttering believable. It was avoiding to accept and move forward with what was happening. Try it like she was thinking the word "NO!" repeatedly instead of finishing the word.

Pe (no!) pe (no!) pe (no!) permanent... damage. (Nope nope nope - this can't be happening, don't be true, etc)

Would you want to go forward, knowing that was your likely fate? Probably not ;)

No, you're not. And the issue isn't whether she won an Oscar or not, or whether the line was in the script, or whether the character would naturally be terrified, etc. She gave a great performance in 99.9% of the movie, but this particular moment fell short.

reply

Yes you are. The scene was terrifying and horrible. The only reason this movie would make me laugh is cause of the dated hairstyles.

I was almost scared of Bobo myself, I guess you're not smart enough to understand the kind of power he had over people, that's why you didn't understand what you were watching and you could sit there looking for "faults" like saying she had an unconvincing stutter.
