I was just about to post "I heard somewhere the character was originally going to be much more slimy and villainous in the script, but the actor in the role was so likeable they did a quick re-write to make him a nicer character." That article must be where I heard that.

Not just Trump. There's a lot of Ted Turner in there, too, with the television news network and the colorizing of classic films.

There's even a deleted scene in which the Clamp building's persistent automated voice greeting wonders aloud "Wouldn't Daniel Clamp make a great President?" I kid you not!
