Madonna was considered to play Karen Hill!

Imagine how different Goodfellas would have been with Madonna in it, no matter how good the script was or how great a director Martin Scorsese is, I don’t think a performance by Madonna would have had anything near the same impact as Lorraine Bracco’s outstanding Oscar nominated acting as Henry Hill’s troubled wife.

I think it would have seriously bogged the film down, much like Sofia Coppola’s wooden performance in The Godfather Part III.

Not as many as Debi Mazar, the breakout star of Goodfellas and True Blue.

I don’t agree with the comparison with Sofia Coppola. She can’t act to save her life. Madonna on the other hand isn’t too bad in the acting department.

I think you’re in the minority with that opinion, I’ve been a huge Madonna fan all my life, I greatly enjoy her music but I don’t think of her as much of an actress even in the few watchable movies she’s been in, the best thing she adds to any of her movies is her music.

It might have been somewhat interesting to see Madonna in this role but I can't really imagine it being any better than the job Lorraine Bracco did. In fact, I could picture it being worse actually but still, Madonna was a big name at the time. It might have done better at the box office. Which surprisingly, GF was not a very big draw at the theaters.
