1980s corporate culture and greed feeds the plot and tone of the film

Well it's set in 1990 so not far off. People willing to kill someone to make and extract any amount of money sits at the central point of the film. Sam's death was a consequence of insatiable greed. As with much of the events. The Subway ghost represents social abandonment of thr mentally ill in my opinion. No doubt that was homeless guy who killed himself and is stuck in limbo forever as a ghost. Willie Lopez is a brutal thug among the many in the crime wave plaguing 1980s NYC.

The movie is a frightening social commentary and the social ills and greed culture in the film set the stage for a very creepy atmosphere (despite the film being more of a drama). I consider this movie to be much more in line with a horror film.

Wow, the OP put alot of thought and time into coming to the conclusion they did about this.. I simply thought at the time it was very well done and sat incredibly well with the moviegoers at the time. Thank God we didn't have social media like we see now back when that came out because it would've ruined the movie.. I looked at this as more of a tragic love story with action interspersed throughout
