Doesn't anyone find this movie and I guess it was a novel a little immoral? The guy has to get all good looking before this woman will ever give him a chance? She couldn't like him for his personality? What is this telling everyone? This movie is so immoral for that. I wouldn't have dated her ass if I had to do some big transformation.
shareUm plus his 'New Zealand accent' was so off and I felt offended. He sounded like he was sucking a lollypop while attempting a bad australian accent. Shame on him.
sharewasn't the BAD accent part of the point really? I mean. the reason they chose it.. and I admit to being rather oblivious myself is that no one outside of a Kiwi really knows what they sound like, its even said in the movie.. which is why Lobo is chosen to be a Kiwi.. so he can get away with the awful accent.
As for the whole immoral thing.. its really a hard call.. and I was reading the posts.. but I can't quite recall the names of the characters.. the sister and the girl.. off hand.. BUT the fact is Gertz says she WANTS a "nice guy", which.. Gus really is.. he's warm.. and kind.. and perhaps a bit shy. BUT as it has been said.. that first impression.. that first look.. there DOES have to be something there.. and their first date, meeting, whataver was very awkward and unsettling.. hardly romantic, don't you think?
The sister though.. I always thought she was brilliant in just pointing out as the Gertz character just loves to point out how laughably bad the whole romance genre is.. but she falls for those same bad cliches that she derided. U happen to like .. actually NO, I LOVE her character for pointing that out.. it's just a FACT.. a pretty face will turn a head... even if you are looking for the sweet, good person.. you know what? you'll still look.. its just in our nature.
People can call that immoral.. or whatever they like, but the sister pointing that out is just reality as it is. I think everyone has been turned by a pretty head.. and we've all met people we may not like on first meeting.. but, have found something about them we really do like.. or the reverse.. been turned by the pretty head and repulsed by what we found underneath.
In this case.. Gertz was just.. disgusted by the wormy almost Emperor Palpatine looking Gus.. and the whole.. and its ben a long long looong time since I saw the movie.. but the pasty.. white.. bloated.. bad toupee are not the best first impression (granted I don't know.. or can't recall if even the audisnce really knew what was wrong with the character at that time, it is revealed shortly later). But from a physical point of view.. we already like Gud.. when we see how he is with the kid... something that the Gertz character didn't notice. I always thought it was great how the KID knew very quickly who he was.. even when Gertz never did.
anyway.. it was a cute movie.. and kind of pointed alot of fingers in some directons.. and it was nice to see that.
guys are like that too. we've seen a lot of movies were the guys were just zoning in on the pretty ones..and then they complain when they are treated badly.
The guy was recuperating from Hodgkin's disease. Show some compassion.
Oh sorry, I forgot. It's okay to be nasty to ill people if they're men, right?
Immoral story? I'd be interested to see if you are with someone who's physically attractive.
Everybody does it, we all go out with eyes and the physical appearance is the first and only thing that we see, you only get to know someone if you spend time with them. Indeed she's not jesus and she's not Mother Theresa.
Sure she's a bit shallow but we all are, some more than the others.
