Was Warren Beatty Miscast as Dick Tracy?

I guess my biggest gripe w/ Beatty in this movie is that he often seems lost (as if he's sleepwalking) or not in control (even though ironically, he's the director). Dick Tracy to me, should be a square but still hard-boiled, old-school cop. Beatty seemed too laid back for such a thing.

I guess if it were up to me, I would've gone w/ somebody like Harrison Ford in the Tracy role.

The movie did a good job of being very much like a comic strip. Beatty was a little stiff in the role (he's a bit stiff in other roles as well) but for what this was he did a great job. One of my to ten movies!

He looks like a cross-eyed chipmunk.

Dick, I am VERY disappointed.

His performance itself is fine. However, he was a little too laid back for a character like Dick Tracy. So yeah, he could've done a better job.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

An actor of the era who would have more closely resembled the comic character would have been Bruce Willis.

Harrison would've been good but it might've been a little too obvious. After watching "The Specialist" me and a co-worker think Stallone would've been perfect for Tracy and to seem up against Pacino would've been the ultimate showdown. Thoughts, anyone

As a side note, Nimoy would've been a better actor for the role of fletcher than Dick Van Dyke
