Director's Cut is freaking incredible. 4 hour epic of beautiful proportions.

It's been so long since I've seen the theatrical version that I don't remember everything that was added, so can't make that much of a comparison. I do think that there's no real reason to include the scene of the troops at Sedgwick, gratifying though it is, and I think the whole opening bit goes on wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too long in the extended version, and Dunbar and Kicking Bird's ride towards the end seems kind of pointless to me. That said, the scene of the Sioux celebrating, and Dunbar realizing they must have caught the hunters is fantastic, and absolutely elevates the film at least a couple of levels. It's like Apocalypse Now for me. There's good and there's bad.

I always watch the Director's Cut - the more Dances With Wolves, the better.

slow vs MEGA slow?

I like the long one?!

Neither. This film is a great example of one that is hopelessly over-rated.

Director's cut, by far. Almost an extra hour is added to it, dragging the viewer much deeper into the film. After watching the DC, it is harder to snap back to reality.

If more people saw DWW's DC, it would be much more loved and not be considered one of the worst Oscar winning films ever.

Watch the director's cut. It is waaaaaay better than the theatrical. People that saw the director's cut know this was a more deserving film than Goodfellas.

I agree with you 100%.
I just watched 20th anniversary edition blue ray, and I was so happy with it,that I changed my rating from 8 to 9.

Rewatched it last night with the 4 Hour cut. Could have sat another 4 hours because it was so good and paced really well even for the long run time.

4 Hour cut all the way
