Just got a great idea for a sequel

I've been thinking about writing a script to Ford Fairlane for a while now but yesterday while watching CNN I finally got an idea for a plot that I think is worthy of bringing the character back. It'd take place in modern times and Ford would be working a lousy job as mall security and having a tough time making ends meet with the downfall of the economy. At the same time, the big car companies would be getting their bailouts from the Government. The cheque to Ford Motors is accidently lost in the mail and through a series of coincidences lands in the hands of Fairlane. The cheque is for a few billion dollars and is simply made out to Ford...so this gives him the idea to add "Fairlane" to the end and cash it himself. So now Ford is really rich and we see him doing a lot of funny things like buying a cigarette factory so he never runs out of smokes and giving a million dollar tip for a lap dance at a strip club. But then of course he'd start to wonder if he should do better things with his money and eventually he learns that this kind of power should be used for good so he donates the rest of the money to charity and he gets famous for being so nice. The movie would be called The Adventures of Ford Fairlane 2: Can't Buy Me Love like that old Beatles song. I'll try to update this post with excerpts from the script as I write it.

The idea has potential.. I'd pay to see it on screen

I first thought "jeez, this is going to be idiotic".

But it sounds like it could be a lot of fun :P A great idea actually. I'd also pay to see it. There would have to be some scene where he's on a break, or rather not on a break, smoking, inside. And where he chases down "bad guys" :P

Could be a great and worthy sequel :)

Hmm, sounds like a Brewster's Millions/Mr. Deeds type idea, but still an interesting take on the next phase of Ford's career.

It doesn't fit with the first movie, but if you are going for a different avenue for which Ford to endeavor, then it sounds like a good start for an altogether different story. You could just swap the Ford character to be an out-of-work comedian or just an average Joe that maybe lost their jobs when all the factories shut down.

Ford never needed the bailout like Chrysler and GM, so you would need to tweak that a bit if you wanted to use that as your angle.

If you wanted to keep the whole car motif going, how about a Pee-Wee rip-off that someone has stolen Ford's Fairlane that leads him down a crazy investigation behind chop-shops that are financed by the Big 3. Lay that one on thick.

Thanks for sharing your idea. I liked this movie for what it was worth; never took itself seriously, knew what it was and just let you in on the ride. Decent plot with an interesting, albeit glossed over aspect of the music business at the onset of the 90s.

The author who created Ford Fairlane is now offering the original stories on which the movie was based, and taking requests for a sequel. Check out www.fordfairlanethesequel.com...or the koala bear dies (again)!

maybe the sequel could be a prequel taking place a year before the events of the first film and it would be set in the 80's which alone would bring some laughs because looking back (i am 40 now) the 80's were rather weird.

just wanted to throw that possibility out there...
