Is Jerry considered a good comedian?

I always considered Jerry to be the least interesting thing about the show. And definitely the least funny.
Is he supposed to be a lame comedian in this? His opening monologues are examples of the most tame, safe comedy.
Is the point of the Jerry character in the show to just be a conduit for the other characters?

Not funny, according to postal employee Newman

Jerry is supposed to be a successful comedian, AFAIK. After all, he earns enough to buy his dad a Cadillac :)

Bania is the lame comedian - https://seinfeld.fandom.com/wiki/Kenny_Bania

He has a middling career as a nightclub comic, which is true to form. He wasn't anything special without being on Seinfeld and in the show, his pilot failed so there was no Seinfeld show within the show to make him successful.

It's Lupe's fault. She threw out the napkin with Jerry's Tonight Show routine on it. He botched his appearance on The Tonight Show because of her.

Gonna be honest, but his standup is just not that good and he's currently touring with Jim Gaffigan and there's a stop here in St. Louis where I live, but no desire to see him.. Love his sitcom though, but to be honest I'm not sure how SEINFELD would've done without George??

Kramer's the only funny one in that show.

I wouldn't say Jerry was unfunny but his humor was very early-90s. It was good at the time when people weren't using observational humor as much. The show's good but that's mostly because of George, Kramer and Elaine. It helps that they were good actors.

So many amazing supporting characters, Peterman, Newman, Steinbrenner, Georges parents. Even George's parents are funnier than Jerry's parents!

Well, he’s no Banya, that’s for sure. Kenny Banya’s a voice for a new generation. Have you heard his bit about Ovaltine? It’s gold!
