Episodes where they "crossed the line" for you

Here's my list:

1) Kramer wearing odd shoes and struggling to speak, being mistaken for a handicapped man.

It was in such poor taste.

2) Jerry complaining about Puddy and George "stealing his move". Having to see George basically under the blankets "going down" on a girl was repulsive.

3) Basically anytime Jason Alexander was shirtless.

3. yes. The others. no.

LOL

The final episode where they laughed at the crime victim. I didn't care much about them after that.

reply

Lucky it was the last episode then.

reply

boring show, whenever it came on after Simpsons as a kid I would go outside and play with my weird neighbor

reply

Not boring to me but to each their own.

reply

because it wasn't a kids show.

reply

yeah thats why I hate it to this day because it reminds me of childhood angers at lack of cable

reply

The suicide episode is still hard to watch.

reply

That episode is weird how they're flirting with each other while he's in bed unconscious.

That's the Larry David sense of humor.

reply

Yeah I always thought that was hilarious.

reply

Never. But I know the difference between reality and a television show, so...

Stop Making Sense!

reply

Can't think of any.

They "crossed the line" a lot on this show. The characters were basically selfish and self centered. So it went with the territory.

When Susan died they were their typical uncaring selves. When Elaine said, "I'm so sorry George" it sounded more like a question. Like she was asking if she should really be sorry or not because he didn't seem very broken up, just relieved. Then they all went out for coffee.

That was an intrinsic element of the show, i.e., how four such uncaring people could still be funny.

reply

I sought of saw her delivery of that line just as someone in shock, trying to process it.

But it was classic black comedy.

George doesn't have to get married now so he's kind of relieved.

They'd already done the joke where he said "If she'd just take a plane somewhere." To which Jerry says "and what? Hope for a crash?"

That's pretty dark comedy.

reply

I didn't say it wasn't funny! But just as you said "very dark".

I actually laughed at a lot of their bad behavior. Maybe it was tasteless on my part? It's just that characters like that can make the viewer feel better about himself. As in, I would never be THAT big of an unfeeling jerk! lol

reply

Susan's death also represents Larry David's departure from the show, and it never got its vibe back. It moved more into whacky comedy with the characters of Elaine and George apparently competing with Kramer for the whacky jokes.

reply

Exactly. The show was political incorrectness done right. They had tasteless moments on the show, but always made it clear that you were supposed to be disgusted at how petty the characters were, not embracing how terrible they were.

reply

The characters being selfish and self centered was part of the comedy. It's a sitcom and was very funny.
