A spin-off is the use of a character/s from an established television show.

Larry David was not a character and in Curb your enthusiasm, he plays himself.

I always thought Jerry's parents were dull, but the Costanzas were hilarious, which explains why I often fast-forward thru the parts with Jerry's parents.

Jerry's father was terrible. Couldn't stand him yelling his lines.

The Costanzas and Puddy would seem to have the most promise. People would tire of Newman’s bunion stories quiclkly.
