Everybody knows you are better off with a defense attorney when you are guilty, or in a precarious position, or a veteran of the system. But repeatedly, the person being questioned by police refuses to ask for an attorney. Not realistic.
Plenty of people ask for attorneys. Have you ever even watched the show?
