A lot of the sitcoms in the 80s, and 90s had "very special episodes", which were about serious topics.

These weren’t as good as Carlton with the gun but they were still trying to be a little edgy.
I can't remember if it was Full House or Boy Meets World, but there was an episode where one of the classmates was being abused by their father. I think it was Boy Meets World.
