Godfather I&II definitely all fantastic movies.

Ditto Shawshank Redemption.Ditto Forrest Gump

Going back into the 1970s/80s golden era,

JAWS, Cuckoos Nest, Rocky, Network, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Terminator/Predator.

I actually had a good time at the first 'Diehard' too, frankly..

I'm wavering about including Beverly Hills Cop and/or Lethal Weapon in the mix.

it was entertaining, that's the ticket...so was Lethal Weapon series, came out better than I'd have expected.

For horror/demonic -category,which I'm not really a devotee of, likewise, 'Scream' movies more entertaining than expected, and the 1970s Damien I & II were actually good shows...probably entertained me more than the more vaunted 'the Exorcist" did..
I know what you did last summer' were ok too..

I thought more of the movies than I did the recent attempt to put "Damien the Omen" to a TV series anyway, that was a disaster..

For teen/high school/college movies, almost surprised no one mentioned

'Cruel Intentions"..

great raiders mention! ๎ง

great ones!

re: who's afraid of virginia woolf?

don't you think that movie really goes to show how home pizza delivery helped society? if only those drunks could have ordered a couple pizzas, and some wings, they would have felt better and gone to sleep.

Thanks, Nuts! I like your list, too. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Virginia Woolf: Oh yeah. Their tiny New England town would have thrived with pizza delivery! (I really wish it had been filmed in color. No reason not to have.)

george: you take the trouble to construct an italian restaurant, to build a society based on the principles of...of pizza! you make waitstaff and kitchen staff and realize that they are, must be, both the same. you bring things to the hungriest of all points, to the point where there must be something to eat. then, all at once, through all the music, through all the sensible sounds of chefs kneading, saucing, comes the restare a bocca asciutta!!! and what is it? what does hostess say when you call up and see about getting a pizza delivered?! up yours.

reply

george: yes, martha? can i get you something?

martha: ah, well, sure. you can, um, pass the garlic bread sticks, if you're of a mind to.

george: no! there are garlic bread sticks!!!!!!!!!! i mean, a man can put up with only so many meals without his garlic bread sticks...he descends a rung or two on the old evolutionary ladder, which is up your commy red lo mein noodle menu. now, i will hold your hand when hungry and you're afraid of the chinese delivery man and i will tote your soy sauce bottles out after midnight so no one can see but i will not give you any garlic bread sticks! and that, as they say, is that.

martha: general tao.

Awesome! I'm glad you liked it. I learned about it in grad school and was surprised I hadn't seen it. The "closest" movie like it is Since You Went Away. (Trivia re SYWA: Jennifer Jones (not her birth name) and Robert Walker met and married while young unknowns in whichever Midwest town they originated. Then they went to Hollywood and both made it. She, of course, left him for David O. Selznick. Their son Robert Walker Jr.--also an actor--looks just like his father.)
