Just how 80s is this movie?

I'm dying to see this movie, but being a child of the 80s myself I'm afraid of seeing James Spader in a peach coloured off the shoulder t-shirt and sweat bands.
So...just how 80s is it?

I wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and kill them.

As one who was there--as a teen during the 80's--almost not at all. I suppose you could say Spader's hair is a little 80's, but that's about it and not very much. It always comes off as early nineties to me, reminds me a lot of my time living/working around a university area in that time. Kind of like "Singles" to me as well. Or maybe it's just the fact that it's always overcast weather in both of those movies....

I think the subject matter of the film means it can transcend to any era. Of course there are obvious little quirks that place it squarely in the 80s (the size of the video camera, Graham and Cynthia's hair and her clothes) but in the main, I never at any point felt I was watching a film that was 'of its time.' The dialogue and the characters absolutely make this film, and thats what makes it timeless.
