Patrick Swayze

By Patrick Swayze not doing this movie, it worked out best for everyone. He would've never been as good as Kurt Russell. Kurt Russell was really funny and him and Stallone made a great team. Patrick Swayze also ended up doing Road House instead. That was a great move on his part.

Eww. The only time Patrick was ever great was in Ghost. But, the idea of him playing a character as charismatic as Cash next Sly is incomprehensible.

Like Big Trouble in Little China Russell's loose charisma is the ONLY way this film works as a whole. Swayze's shtick (RIP) had always been sincerity and a complete lack of irony. This film would have ground to a halt. As it is, it's the kind of action debauchery that The Last Boy Scout wishes it was half as fun as.

When I first read that Swayze was the original choice for 'Cash' I thought "that could have definitely worked" because like Russell he had the whole anti-grooming lion's mane hair going on and the same irreverent attitude to authority vibe in contrast to Stallone's ultra-establishment Reaganite wet-dream. But like you suggest, Russell is like the ironic, self-mocking version of Swayze (whose rigid earnestness and sincerity is arguably what makes bouncer-come-Eastern-philosophy-scholar 'Dalton' so effective in ultimate b-movie actioner 'Road House'). You need Russell's humor and lack of pretension to counterbalance Stallone's pomposity and notorious Achilles Heel when it comes to comedy.

Would have been a different movie, less humor I think. Imagine Russell doing Roadhouse as Dalton.

I agree, I liked how it worked out, it worked out for the best.
