M'Lynn's attitude about Aunt Fern...

M'Lynn calls Aunt Fern "that awful woman" when she says she'll be by to drop off the groom's cake at the beginning of the movie, then, when M'Lynn picks up Jack Jr. from her after Shelby dies, she doesn't say one word to her, just picks up the kid and leaves.

Why didn't M'Lynn like Aunt Fern?

"We're all out of cornflakes. F.U." Took me three hours to figure out F.U. was Felix Ungar!

I agree with the others thinking it was because M'Lynn was a snob. No matter where you live there are classes, and I think she thought Aunt Fern was low class and that the cake, and Jackson's family, were tacky. It's about more than just money. A person's demeanor, manners, tastes, hobbies, etc., constitute the whole person. While not being mean spirited, M'Lynn was nevertheless a very proper and conservative lady. Among some people you can't buy class. Kind've like the Beverly Hillbillies: they are the Beverly Hillbillies by any other name or location.
