What was all the fuss?

I have to say, after years of hearing this is a must see coming of age love story, I was greatly disappointed. A very ho hum film that seemed to circle the wagons way too often. Nothing out of the ordinary and just very simplistic. I honestly do not get this.

If you didn't get it then there is nothing to be said to make you get it. Could be a generational thing. I became an adult in the 80's so it rang true to me. Every girl I knew wanted a guy like Lloyd Dobler, and many guys compared themselves to him. Being different and staying true to yourself is difficult when you're young, and both characters in the movie accomplished it.

I just watched it for the first time since it came out. I was surprised how many times I lost interest especially at the start with the long party scene.

It’s an ok film but nothing amazing.

The absolute ONLY thing this movie is remembered for today is the "Peter-Gabriel-In-Your-Eyes-On-The-Boombox" scene. At the time, it was considered "high art" and compared with the "Don't You Forget About Me" scene at the end of The Breakfast Club. Today, not so much.

Maybe that's it. I only saw this for the first time recently and was underwhelmed.

Movies are subjective. I always thought Say Anything was a boring movie.
