Boy does this movie lose steam..

...after 40 minutes(which of were good) the only parts that aren't just tedious to watch are the S.J. Hawkins scenes, and the best one of those segmants had to be repeated later on. What a disappointment..

it seemed like each segment became less and less engaging. I liked the Japanese characters and their interactions.

reply

Yep, same...the Japanese were the first 40-45 mins of the movie. That segment was a pleasure to watch. The rest, sadly, was a waste of effort.

lol..Crash is such a crap pretentious film. I haven't seen Babel but it's probably crap too. I hate those mainstream "meaningful" films. Most are pretentious and just plain redundant.

How interesting people think this. I thought each segment was equally great! Granted, the first was more traditional Jarmusch, but I thought the whole film was strangely charming!

The third segment was by far the most enjoyable - a fine adventure of a drinking spree and hilarious, too, mainly thanks to Buscemi in fantastic form.

A fine adventure of a drinking spree? A bit of a weird way to describe a horrifying liquor store robbery (for two bottles of hooch?!?) that probably killed an innocent man.

reply

do you get outraged over every movie where the protagonists do bad things? Do you only enjoy movies where good people do good things?

reply

No, I just finished a rewatch of one of my all-time favorites, "Double Indemnity", which certainly isn't that. For that matter, I consider "Mystery Train" itself a great film. So you have misunderstood me if you thought i was dragging the movie. I was only observing that the way Franz Kabuki characterized the third segment was "weird". And I stand by that characterization.

reply

Excellent. I love it. The movie really sputters out as it goes on.
