Why the sad "goodbye" at the end

With Boy dead, why couldn't Fred Savage just go visit his friend maurice whenever he pleased? There is this great big teary eyed ending with them saying goodbye, but couldnt he go visit there whenever he pleased?

I always Interpreted as Brian Is growing up and Maurice knows it. But lets dig into it a little deeper!

Maybe because The kids Had a really close call with being turned into monsters( if they didn't get back to the human world before sunlight)..I wouldn't wanna risk it again if i was Brian..Would you? Especially since he went through all that to save his little brother.

Also...There is no Human adults in the monster world. Eventually Brian will most likely forget all about Maurice and the Monster world under the Beds. He will begin dating..Partying..getting drunk..Laid(hopefully) and the Monster world will have been in his childhood..Perhaps even his Imagination.

I think the 2nd poster nailed. it. Brian is grown up now and can't be speding his time "partying" and staying up all night with Maurice. I mean, could he still realistically be friends with Maurice and live a normal life? Sure, but the movie is supposed to symbolize growing up.
