Death of a bride

We know Della is killed but did Felix also get killed?

I take it her death was slow. I got the impression the young thug with the knife might even have raped her.

Ah, so he survived.

Yes. In the scene where M confronts Bond, and revokes his licence to kill, it's mentioned that Felix is slowly recovering from his injuries. And then, as previously mentioned, he's briefly seen at the end of the film.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

reply

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh I don't know I missed it. Must watch this one again sometime.

I'm trying to watch all the movies in order one more time.

Still feel that Della's death wasn't as quick as we see.. Much more must have happened too her off camera, what we don't see.

Della was definitely raped by Dario. If you'll remember, right before they put Felix in the shark tank he asked them where his wife is, and Dario replies "Don't worry, we gave her a nice honeymoon." Not to mention the state we find her in, (sprawled on the bed, spread-eagle) can prove Dario wasn't just taunting him.

"I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it! I just *do* things."

reply

Wow I guess that's the first rape in a Bond film.....

I dont' know why they bothered capturing Felix.... If the they wanted to kill him they should have done that there and then.....

reply

Sanchez says to Felix right before the shark part "There are worse things than dying." So he didn't really intend to have Felix killed, he wanted him to suffer.

Is Della actually killed? I don't think they literally say that, and if you watch the scene where Dalton discovers her, she actually blinks once (don't know if this was just an error).
After seeing the blink, I just assumed she was traumatised by the experience...

reply

No, Della was definitively murdered. She has a gaping wound in her chest, which I assume was caused by Dario's weapon of choice, his switchblade knife.

reply

This movie is a work of fiction. Nothing was filmed or implied that she was raped

reply

My peeve with the Felix phone scene is how cheery he is. His newly wedded bride was murdered (and possibly raped while he watched) his leg (and possibly arm) have been bitten off by a shark, but on the phone he's all "Hi James, I'm doing great thanks, how are things with you?"

reply

Here we go again!

OP...turn in your imdb membership card.....you have lost your posting priveledges for starting such a dumb thread...!!!!

Did you watch the movie with your eyes closed and the sound turned off????

reply

Hey dude I'm sorry for asking a quesiton......

Has this issue beeen brought up before?

reply

Maybe I came across a bit harsh...but nevertheless....I am flabbergasted by people who can operate a computer, and then navigate through a website enough to ask a question about something that is clearly answered in the movie!!

I am not trying to be difficult....but I beg of you to tell me---how did you interpret that scene where is talking, and joking and laughing with oo7 at the end...and come away from that scene with questions as to whether he lived or died?

I am really curious to know....!

reply

I had no issues..... I knew 007 would get the guy who killed Della, just I thought at first before watching the movie again that all he did was rough her up and stab her to death.

reply

when i was young i just thought he murdered her, stabbed her and maybe choked her to death coz her eyes were open...i didn't interpret the nice honeymoon bit as rape as well. That sucks.

^Thats how i see it as well hipster01cg. She wasn't raped, just stabbed to death on the bed with Bond finding her lifeless. The honeymoon insult wasn't to imply rape but to play headgames with Felix. Della looked more like she was partially tortured then killed, and given Dario's psychotic nature thats probably what happened in a short amount of time as you said and he killed Della via choking her to death.

But its also true in the same dire situation Dario would've also raped her and he wasn't bluffing about the honeymoon comment to Felix. I only question it all because of how she was found on the bed, her legs weren't open wide enough to imply a rape had also happened only that her chest had a blatant knife wound and clearly visible blood patch on her dress.

She was raped, very likely gang raped at that. This is something that virtually every Bond and film review site concurs on. I watched LTK at 14 and instantly realised what had happened. It's clearly implied through the sarcasm and sadistic tone of "Don't worry, we gave her a good honeymoon!"

Why did they kill Della? She have nothing and I mean nothing to do with sanchez arrest. I was watching License to Kill on G4 and I think they cut out the part where James finds her dead. Newlyweds just seem to run into trouble in the Bond Universe Bond's wife gets killed shortly after they get married in On her majesty's secret service.

I expected Bond to find Della held for ransom somewhere.

reply

Della's death makes me wanna waste the dumb writer who came up with the idea. Why couldn't they just kidnap her ,force her to watch Felix get turned into fish food and have Bond rescue her at some point? Even that bad guy with the white cat wouldn't have killed her like that if at all.

reply

It's tragic. But I think Della had to die. I've mentioned on other threads that I think Felix being maimed by Sanchez is only half the reason why Dalton quits MI-6. I think Felix losing his wife on his wedding day is the other key factor motivating Bond, since he suffered the same fate in OHMSS. Dalton even snaps at M during the scene where he resigns. M makes a comment that Felix knew the risks and Dalton snaps "Did his WIFE?"

After finally silencing the demons of losing your own wife on your wedding day, certainly seeing the man who was your best friend suffer exactly the way you are would certainly send you over the edge. Even a professional such as Bond.

I love to love my Lisa.

reply

She could have been badly injured and ended up in the ll hospital and bond would still go after the bad guys so they couldn't hurt them again. Bond did not need to be reminded of Tracy's death in OHMSS because he didn't have bullet proof glass on his car. My blood has been boiling still I saw that movie. Besides Bond chucked that bad guy with the cat down the chimney in For Your Eye's Only the first Bond movie I saw. Wouldn't that be going rogue and getting revenge for Tracy? I have been thinking of writing fanfiction in which Della is brought back somehow like Q making a temporal displacement device but coulnd't save tracy becuase going that far back needed to much power. and a cloning machine.

reply

I thought of something. Why couldn't Bond be made to think she was dead and find out Della is alive after killing Sanchez?

reply

I think I found a way Della could have lived and Bond still gets his Revenge. Felix learns that Sanchez has escaped and pulls a bait and switch The Della with him in the hotel is a decoy. The real Della is put on a plane with agents headed out of the country while the decoy who is an agent gets killed even with her training. After Bond kills Sanchez the real Della comes back to Felix and all is well. I don't think Sanchez would know cause he was a small druglord. If it had been Drax, The guy with the white cat , the Soviets ,or any other of the big bad guys with underground lairs and millions of flunkys around the world then i think it would have failed.

reply

Delia was definitely raped before she was killed. Then Sanchez used the shark to maim Felix. He left him alive so he would live with the guilt that he caused this.
In the novelization it was further explained that he made Felix watch what happened to Delia. But that was left out of the final cut. They had to keep it PG13.

reply

For the record, the "guy with the white cat" was Ernst Stavro Blofeld, head of SPECTRE, and (best) played by Donald Pleasence.
