Indy wearing a tie with his field attire when he went to rescue his dad = brilliant subtle detail.
When I was younger, I always thought it was a bit odd that Indy wore a tie with his field attire when he went to rescue his dad in the Austrian castle: it always seemed a bit out of place for a gray-collar character like Indy. Upon a recent re-watch of the movie, it suddenly dawned on me that he wore the tie because deep down he desperately wanted his father's approval/acceptance more than anything, yet it is something he would not speak about openly. It really adds a layer of poignancy to Indy as a character and it makes the plot and themes of this film that much more meaningful all around.
