I personally thought this was the best Indiana Jones movie.

The reasons why I liked this movie the best is because I loved the chemistry between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery's characters and those two were a lot of fun to watch.

I prefer Ark and Temple to this one but it was a fun movie and the Ford/Connery dialogues were terrific

I love seeing two or more big stars work off each other (Oceans 11 comes to mind)

reply

To each his or her own.

The older I get, the more I like Raiders of the Lost Ark and the less I like every other Indiana Jones movie. To me, Raiders of the Lost Ark seems like it was put together the best.

reply

I do admit "Raiders" had the best female companion w/Karen Allen playing Marion.

reply

I am in the minority thinking Temple of Doom is bad and Raiders and Last Crusade are superior.

TOD is an excellent film in it's own right. The problem is that it gets invariably compared to two better films.

As a kid temple of doom was my favourite. I've seen it more times than the others combined.

Why do you think most dislike it?

Me too, and i think it's actually not that dark. It is very campy in some parts but in a good way. Plus the heart ripping scene was great, i mean people still talk about it to this day and most do so in a positive way.

I would put Crusade at the same level as Raiders, and TOD considerably back but still a pretty good movie by any metric.

But, Raiders will always be special to me because it was the first.

reply

I have always liked Crusade the best. You're not alone!

reply

Last Crusade was always my favorite. It's just so much more fun IMO. Ark has some great iconic moments, but the story itself was kind of lacking to me. Last Crusade was great!

reply

I think it is the best of the series too. It's very gripping. And it get's fairly grim in the midway part of the film too. This still gives Harrison Ford leeway for his fun and games either side of it. I've rated it 8/10.

reply

It’s a good job Ford and Connery got on well ‘as their characters’ because they sure as hell didn’t get on off set! Between takes they couldn’t stand each other!

Yes I love Crusade too but I reckon Raiders takes the crown IMO.

reply

I was never aware that those two couldn't stand each other in real life.

reply

Yes they did not indeed! It’s well documented that they didn’t like each other and avoided each other off set.

reply

Well, I don't know about Sean Connery, but what I've seen of Harrison Ford in interviews the guy comes across as a total prick.

reply

Yes it probably had more to do with Ford than Connery.

reply

"Well documented", where? Every single article I can find says they got along famously. The only hint of friction I was able to find was here:

https://newsok.com/article/2266917/connery-more-than-just-a-father-figure?_ga=2.21983611.1318054486.1549655509-1190721235.1549655509

Connery: "I found Harrison Ford wonderful to work with once we got over the teething problem of not having worked together before. Once we got that out of the way, we were able to get into the father-son relationship."

reply

I don't buy it.

Harrison Ford "I wasn't sure about the casting of Sean at first. The guy's only 12 years older than me and he's supposed to be my father. But it worked out. It was great fun working with him and bouncing off each other."

Ford and Spielberg are both on record saying Last Crusade was the one they enjoyed working on the most. Would they say that if there was tension on set? And Ford, who isn't exactly one of the most extroverted celebs, was on stage praising Connery at his AFI lifetime achievement ceremony.

reply

It was good but I still prefer the first (I try not to think of the second).

reply

Last Crusade is the best. I still think Raiders is the best visually but for entertainment and pure enjoyment it's this one.
