I was six when I first saw this, watched it on Netflix for the first time in fifteen years.
Wow, is all I can say. As an aspiring screenwriter, the whole movie flows so well (plot wise) I like how the family problems are addressed early on when Amy is on the phone. I also liked the scenes with Wayne and Diane too, especially in the third act. That scene where they sit on the porch talking about their life, hopes, dreams, even their marriage. There's real melancholy there, and it feels genuine (which means the filmmakers did a great job of making the story seem real)
I wish they had enough time to spend with Amy and Russ jr. but the actors did a great job of playing teens from different in-crowds. I liked how Russ was shy and nervous around Amy at first (even when he watched her dancing in the kitchen lol) But when you put the shy kid into a bizarre situation with the girl of his dreams, it's fun to watch him rise to the occassion and become the hero.
I mean let's face it, Russ jr. may've not had the makings of a varsity athlete but he was brave and dashing when he saved Nick (twice) saved Amy from drowning (twice) and saved his idiot brother from the scorpion (well, Anty did but Russ tried lol)
It was an interesting journey, not just for the kids, but the adults too!
