Why are the Ghostbusters back to square one? Why isn’t Peter with Dana? Why don’t people in New York believe in ghosts despite the events of the first movie? Why are we going through the same motions as the original? Why does it seem this movie is toned down for kids?

shareBy the time the second movie was made the cartoon and related tie ins existed---and were very popular. So the movie had to cater to that while trying to pick up the pieces of the first.
Yeah Peter should have been with Dana, Egon should have been with Janine, Ray would have been with his staypuff doll---film probably would have shown Winston hooking up in the dating waters.
Unfortunately this never happened, we would have/could have possibly immediately gotten a decent third out of this vs waiting years.
And could had been spared 'Nothing but Trouble'.
