Did anybody actually see this in a theater?

If so what did you think when you walked out?

Were you disappointed? Did you feel like it was money worth spent?

reply

I saw it and I liked it. I was 8 years old at the time, though. I didn't think about the money factor since my mom paid for the tickets.

reply

Nice.

Thx for the memory.

It's funny I have 1 memory of it, while it was in theaters.

My father was driving the car and I was in the back seat with my brothers. We drove by a theater on the interstate and there was a giant balloon on top of the theater looking just like the poster.

It was the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man! with a big #2.

It was huge!

This had to have been in the first 2 weeks of the film's opening, I guess.

We drove on by and I've forgotten the rest of the journey.

Such fun!!

Movies really do make memories :)

1989 Was the first year I saw anything in theaters at 3-4 years old & I vaguely yet specifically remember each one which included Ghostbusters II, The Little Mermaid, Back to the Future II, & Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

But to more specifically answer your question I always liked Ghostbusters II & prefer it to the original

reply

Very, very cool.

I think 1989 was a wonderful year for films.

So many great movies:

I was 4-5 that year and remember seeing Ghostbusters 2 and Honey i Shrunk the Kids.

reply

No. But only because it came out when I was 3 years old. I only ever watched it on VHS as a kid.

All the kids wanted to see GBII as their birthday party outing, so I went at least 3 times. I remember the buzz being enormous, with TV spots featuring the courtroom ghosts which really whet the appetite.

I remember everyone liking it, and quoting Janosh saying ‘a child’ and generally enjoying the slime and Statue of Liberty.

I saw it again recently and it holds up very well, it’s just a shame that it plays a bit younger with less spicy jokes and a cartoonified Janine. That said, Vigo’s demon form is brilliantly creepy, and it’s heavily implied that Egon put his dick in the slime and tried to fuck it.

The effects are great and there’s something about practical ghost effects that seem really ‘special’, especially the bathtub slime monster. These days they’d CGI it of course and the digital photography and grading would make the world look synthetic, so you don’t get the same visceral experience.

Yes, I saw this in a theater in Oklahoma City back in early summer 1989. I was 22 years old and back then I (like most young people) went to the movie theaters practically every week during the summer. That summer of 89 I remember going to see The Abyss, Star Trek V, Dead Poet's Society, Batman, Indy Jones 3, Let it Ride, and many more.

What I remember from seeing Ghostbusters II is very little. I think it was so boring I couldn't follow the story, I just waited it for to end the whole time it was very obvious this was a cash grab and nothing else. One other thing I remember is that Hardees had Ghostbusters II glasses with the Ghost 2 logo on them. Honestly I think Bill Murray is so ashamed of this movie that's why he never wanted to be top billed in another Ghostbuster movie ever again!

Yes along with all the other 89 movies Indy, Batman, Star Trek V (summer)... then BTTF2 and GB2 (winter in uk).. I couldn't see Bond as was a 15 in uk so too young

I remember being excited as had seen and loved GB in 84 (along with Indy and Star Trek again that year. and as with GB2, GB1 was winter in uk). But even though was at an age when you love every movie and every movie seemed like the best movie ever I could tell it wasn't anywhere as good as GB1 (same with Star Trek V that summer.. kind of liked it but was blatantly inferior to Trek IV). It felt too comedic (GB1 had a nice blend of comedy and serious horror) the bad guy was boring (a painting?) and there was his silly lackey, too much pink slime the plot of the underground slime making people angry and bringing fur coats and toasters to life seemed ridiculous and the statue of liberty was abit wtf? I remember I went with my dad and he hated it (he also hated BTTF2 which I thought was great but was he was surprisingly ok with Batman and Indy which I obviously thought were both amazing best films ever made)

I remember I got a GB2 calendar and novel for Xmas (as well as novels for the other movies id seen that year)

But really that year belonged to Batman and Indy.. all the rest were secondary even BTTF2 which I remember wasn't that well regarded at the time either (it wasn't until years later it was considered the best of the trilogy.. abit like Empire Strikes Back)

Saw it in the theaters and I thought it was good, especially the statue of liberty scene.

Back then you didint criticize things as much today...you went to a movie, you went to a movie...you didnt dissect everything like we see today.
