Nicholson still the best Joker by a mile

Still the funniest and most iconic Joker there ever will be. Also the most comic book accurate.

Ledger was decent as the Joker but massively overrated due to his death. And I don't know who the hell Joaquin Phoenix was playing, but it wasn't the Joker. Great performance in general, but he was playing a different character altogether.

reply

I actually thought Caesar Romero was the best....

reply

I agree

If you remember the original debate was which Joker was most comic book accurate. I said it was Hammil's you tried to omit that simply because he is animated. I then point to Romero who is more comic book accurate than Nicholson and is live action. You call me a Nolan fanboy when really the true fanboy is you. You are a Burton fanboy. Notice I did not even say Ledger was the most comic book accurate. You like Nicholson most therefore put him as most comic book accurate out of sheer bias.

Plot points are part of the character's motivations and psychology. You provided me no comic book where Joker killed Bruce's parents. Therefore you need to concede that you were wrong here. Then we can move on to the next points. Remember this was the original debate, I am playing by your rules now. So either provide the comic where Joker killed Bruce's parents or concede to being wrong.

reply

Lmao the fact that you keep desperately trying to redeem yourself says it all. You were destroyed bud, you're a pathetic little Nolan fantard. Keep crying.

reply

So not conceding to facts? I won thanks.

reply

Lol if you won you wouldn't be coming back here days later paraphrasing our debate so it looks like you weren't totally humiliated. To quote Willy Wonka - you lose! Good day sir!

reply

Oh no I like amusing myself with ignorant folks. You provided no comic where joker killed Bruce's parents. I'm still waiting.

reply

Waiting to get back your dignity? It's gone pal, i've stomped all over it.

reply

Lol by failing to address facts? In order to do that you have to hold yourself to the same standard you hold other people. You didn't do that. You denied several facts. I'm not letting you get away with denying facts sorry.

reply

I grew up in the 60s reading Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Fantastic Four comics. And this is probably generational, but Nicholson was the Joker that I grew up with.

reply

"I grew up in the 60s ....Nicholson was the Joker that I grew up with."

umm.. no, he wasn't.

reply

Phoenix was a better Joker than Nicholson also. He won the Oscar where as Nicholson was not even nominated.

reply

Phoenix won the Oscar because that film was a character study. If you put him in Batman 89 not much would move the plot forward. Also he would not have gotten an Oscar. I loved his performance as the joker and it was a good origin story but Nicholson is still the best and closest to the comics. Phoenix might be better, but it's hard to tell because he is only the Joker for a minute at the end.

reply

Villains get Oscar nominations all the time. Javier Bardem got one for No Country For Old Men. Nicholson did not even receive a nomination because he was not that good. Also no he was not the most comic book accurate wrong. You simply like him more. He has been surpassed many times. Phoenix creams him any day of the week. The Burton Batman film was not that good to begin with though. The Batman beats it any day. In what comic did Joker kill Bruce Wayne's parents?

reply

Second only to Romero.

I actually was against the casting of Nicholson when I heard about it way back in '85. I thought we had already seen him do crazy; what else had he to offer?

reply

I'd say Nicholson's Joker was perfect for the type of Batman film he was in, and Ledger's Joker was perfect for the type of Batman film he was in.

I do prefer the "Nicholson" Batman film above all the others (so far), and I think those focusing on the Ledger Batman forget just how dark the Nicholson Batman is sometimes, perhaps because of the comic element.
