What if Hamill and Baldwin were J and Bats?

Hamill honestly is a solid character actor outside of Star Wars he could pull off Joker. When he was younger Baldwin had a more playboy look and was more fit,the shadow was the closest thing he got to Batman. I like Jack and Keaton but these two would have been great

I might then rent the movie instead of go see it when it comes out on dvd.

reply

It would be on vhs and you d have to time travel

reply

I'd watch it? Keaton is still my favourite Batman, but let's face it young Baldwin would have been perfect.

reply

Which Baldwin? There are as many Baldwin brothers as there were Marx brothers. Alan (Groucho)? William (Harpo)? Daniel (Gummo)?

reply

Alec. I'm guessing.

reply

Plus the unrelated Adam.

It's hard to imagine anybody but Keaton doing the role in this film. I don't think Baldwin would have delivered a performance as good as what Keaton fired up in this. Keaton was pretty close to perfection here. I can't picture another late-80s actor who I would replace Keaton with.

Nicholson was stellar, too, but Hamill I can see doing it (perhaps because of his tremendous vocal work on the animated series). Ironically, there's no way he'd have been cast given his Skywalker typecasting.

reply

I don't Hamill got typecast perse i have seen lots his indie films from the 90s not really luke like. Hes a really good character actor

reply

I think he's an amazing actor, a fantastic voice over artist, but I think his mainstream success was limited and/or crippled by his being seen as Luke Skywalker and nothing else.

reply

Baldwin could have been really good in this role, but its hard to imagine anyone else but Keaton playing that role.

Who knows what Hamill would have done with it, but Nicholson brought the major star power that the movie needed to make it the blockbuster it became. Notice he got top billing over Keaton. And his portrayal of the Joker is amazing as well.

Keaton was a unique Bruce Wayne that worked in Burton's vision. I don't see Alec Baldwin doing that. With another director and vision, sure.

reply

Did you ever watch the shadow? Baldwin could have done it. Baldwin worked with Burton before

reply

Yes, I saw The Shadow. Lamont Cranston was nothing like Bruce Wayne in Batman '89. Did you see that movie?

Concerning Burton and Baldwin, obviously Burton didn't think Baldwin was the gut to play Bruce Wayne.

reply

I did see the movie i saw some bats in him. Doesn't mean baldwin couldn't be bats

reply

Yeah it made me think he could have pulled off being Batman in 89 and he would have met Kim Basinger sooner

I don't know about Baldwin (Alec?) but as much as I enjoy Jack's Joker in this, I'd have *loved* Mark to have got a shot at a live action Joker.

That said, watch him in The Flash (1990's series) as "The Trickster" and you can pretty much see how he'd have played it. It's an awesome performance (predating his Joker voice work, AFAIK) and easily the standout high point of the whole series. Also, it's clearly where the idea for Harley Quinn came from, in the form of Trickster's sidekick "Prank". Although different to his later Joker vocal performances in many ways, Mark as The Trickster is the closest I feel we'll ever get to how he would have done Mister J in the late 80's-early 90's live action.
