Was 2015 always meant to be the “future?”

In the original Back to the Future, Doc says he is going to travel 40 years into the future, and then he comes back from the future to take Marty and Jennifer with him to the future, so shouldn’t they have traveled to the year 2025 instead of 2015?

Did he say 30 or 40? It would make sense for it to be 30 since 1985 is halfway between 1955 and 2015.

Sidha108, in the first movie, Doc plans to drive thirty years into the future, so 2015 is correct.
