Worst ending to a movie EVER?
Ending your movie with a commercial for yet another movie (and a stupid looking one at that) is a great way to ensure your audience leaves the theater miffed! Never have your audience leave the theater miffed!
shareNot a lot of people left miffed. Lots left excited in the anticipation of the conclusion. By a pretty huge majority.
But I'm sure Zemeckis thanks you and cherishes this advice about his still-highly regarded trilogy some 30 years after the fact.
Zemeckis literally says in the commentary that the non-ending pissed people off, causing tickets sales to fall off a cliff after an initial strong opening because people were telling their friends & family not to see it. Toodaloo!
shareTrue. From what I heard, this movie received a polarised response among critics and fans during its' initial release.
Reception has improved overtime, yes, though I feel that's mainly due to the growth in classic status the original 1985 movie received and becoming part of a trilogy that's just as iconic overall as said movie.
But I also wonder, does it really deserve such a resurgence in popularity? It used to be my favourite as a kid, but on a recent rewatch it just feels too flashy, gimmicky, needlessly convoluted and unfocused with numerous inconsistencies, not as well acted or even as timeless as the original.
I still kinda like it, though mostly as a guilty pleasure.
Part III is the better sequel overall. Sure, some don't like the Western aspect or the more 'reserved' approach, but it had heart, good character development, consistency, and an overall better ending.
Well, lots of people still went to see it and it was very successful. Don't think he's too worried about it
