Only the last 30 minutes are good, weakest Cameron movie

Well, maybe Avatar is even worse...

As for the Abyss, the first 3 of 4 parts of the film are incredibly non-eventful and I'm talking about the theatrical (2h20m) cut. Can't imagine how boring the director's cut (2h50m) is!

Oooh, didn't know he made such trash in the beginning of his career!

Disagree completely. It's intense right from the start and doesn't let up. Can't wait to get it on blu-ray next year.

^^

I'd say the opposite. The first 3/4 are the most eventful of ANY Cameron movie. And the last section is by far its weakest. Both T2 and Aliens have more action-filled final reels (and better endings) but i still prefer The Abyss overall.

Isn't the rumor that they're skipping ahead to 4k (so skipping both a real dvd and the blu-ray format)

From what I understand, it'll be released on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD.

Oh wow this is WAY better than Avatar. It's not even close.

reply

I disagree, this movie is a classic!

Funny, I never liked the whole city rising from the depths of the ocean thing.
It looked fake and it was a let down from the rest of what was a pretty
decent and suspenseful movie.

Avatar is the best...hands down...

And, I know this is asking a lot, but your REASONS for why Dances With Wolves In Outer Space is better than The Abbys are . . .? ‘Cause, you see, blanket statements from a nobody like you have no validity.

reply

I actually agree - though it's not the lack of events that's the problem, but rather how spaced out the events are in this film - and the dialogue between the events isn't that great.
