does Tom Hanks know this is his best movie

I rewatch the Money Pit it's not that good almost no laughs almost every joke falling flat but not this movie this movie is so good

reply

I did like The Money Pit but The Burbs is IMO one of Tom Hanks's best movies.

reply

I'll agree it's his best comedy. But to me his best film will always be Forrest Gump.

reply

I can't re watch Forrest Gump like i can re watch The Burbs so I guess it's not

reply

To each his own. I honestly hate the movie the Godfather which most everyone loves.

reply

I couldn't watch Forrest Gump the first time. Just too much stupid piled on top of each other.

reply

Forrest Gump is great. But The Burbs is better.

reply

Dude, never saw Joe vs. the Volcano?

reply

Yes I have

reply

It's right up there for sure. I've never heard Tom Hanks even mention it, so I don't know if he knows how good it is.

He has a handful of great ones - I might put The Green Mile on the same level as the Burbs.

reply

While I will say Wild Bill's song about Eduard Delacroix's execution is very entertaining I don't think it holds a candle to the greatness of the Klopeks.

reply

HA! I've never thought of that moment as the defining one, but you have made me imagine the Klopeks working...or maybe locked up...on the green mile.

"I've never heard Tom Hanks even mention it, so I don't know if he knows how good it is"

He did an interview some years years back in the UK where he didn't speak fondly of it. I can't find a clip of it on YouTube. But he mentioned it and then with obvious sarcasm he said "Show a clip of it, honestly it wouldn't bother me".

He went on to say though that he learnt more while making this than any other because Bruce Dern got a line wrong but because he was a veteran in front of the camera, he just carried on with the take. Hanks called himself naive for not realising that's what he should've been doing prior to this when he messed up instead of just stopping. Carry on until the director says cut because it might still turn out to be a great take that can't be captured the same again.

reply

It's actually his 3rd best after:
1) Cast Away
2) Saving Private Ryan

Everything else he's done is kind of meh, even Big and Captain Phillips. Those films aren't seared into the back of my mind
like 1 & 2 are. They're merely just fine.

This movie is also elevated by Carrie Fisher looking her best IMO, so there's that.

Tom Hanks is an amazing actor with dozens of top tier movies…

…but yeah, The ‘Burbs is definitely his best. Not even joking.

reply

I wish he made comedies again.

reply

Dragnet was pretty cool too.
