1989 Seems Like So Long Ago...

December 1989 was when The Simpsons first premiered. I was born in December 1987 so I had just turned 2.

I'll be 29 next month and I'm starting to feel like an antique LOL. Anyone else think 1989 seems such a long time ago. Most people probably don't even remember it.

I was only 7 when the show debuted. Honestly though, my first taste was occasionally watching the show here and there during its early seasons, but until it debuted in syndication after the 5th season on local TV stations all over the U.S., I hadn't watched all the episodes. That was a game changer to me, and for me what greatly turned me into a HUGE fan of this show! Plus the fact it briefly aired 3 times a day on my local channel(Fox 32 in Chicago), was a huge plus to me in turning me into a fan!

Never mind I later discovered the sick trend of U.S. syndication cutting small scenes and jokes, from the episodes that reran on Fox 32 and other channels throughout the country. So I'm glad all the seasons(that mattered to me, since the show got stale after like seasons 15 and 16) were released on DVD(and for some later seasons, Blu-Ray), later on. And from what I noticed, FXX airs them sans syndication cuts, so kudos to them!

 Good times!

Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie and the entire town of Springfield have brought great laughs over the years!!!

I remember The Simpsons from The Tracey Ullman Show in '87. I was 10. Damn, I feel old.

^^^You are old. 40 is middle age or for most more than 50 percent of your life lived. Don't feel bad 46...Lol. Thankfully I don't look or feel it yet but I'm also very aware that I will age quicker after my 40's. You can look young In your 40's but most people can't get away with it In their 50's...

Yep we are the same age. I started watching via Tracey Ullman too. 1989/1987 was like another lifetime.

Nostalgia. It really was. I am finding myself telling stories to my 12 year old niece about the old days of playing outside until it got dark and how I didn't get a cell phone until I was in my twenties. 😣

You all are young! I was born in 1980, and remember when the "shorts" of the Simpsons first aired; I was in 6th grade thinking, "what's this new cartoon with this rude son and his dad choking him" I think Maggie was sticking a fork in the electrical socket too(could be wrong). Anyway, I'm now 37 and still watch from time to time(actually just finished season 28).

The Simpsons are the last remaining cartoon from my childhood, so I'll always feel a certain way about it. I think it'll go 30 seasons then they'll retire it; it'll be a sad day for sure.

I wish it were 1989; the world was a better place, with less technology, and no milliennials!

Right there with you, Kev. I'm aged enough to have VHS tapes of all the original unedited broadcasts. 'Twas a lovely time. I haven't followed the series since the start of season 11 except for the Futurama and Family Guy crossovers.
