Women - Do you love it like we love it?

Just curious...

I think we'd all agree that certain types of movies tend to appeal to specific genders, and being a Western, Lonesome Dove might seem more of a guy movie. In my opinion, it's one of the greatest films ever made on so many levels - acting, music, depth of character, effectiveness of storytelling... yet I'm always torn when it comes to showing this film to women, unless they express some specific interest in it.

So, tell me ladies... Is a Western like Lonesome Dove up your alley? Why or why not?

I never miss it when it's on TV .. it's on now on AMC .. I guess it's safe to say that I have seen it maybe 50 times .. nothing else that I have watched comes close to Lonesome Dove .. You can't get any better than that .

Well, I love it now because I'm older. My father adored this miniseries. He was a Nebraska farm boy born and raised and the cowboy life appealed to him. He saw and lived through many tragedies and good times, but the frontier life was hard. He lost his pa early, he was run over by a tractor and died 3 days later. His Ma was born and raised in a soddy house and they grew up afraid of being kidnapped by Indians. No *beep* I'm not making this up.

Now that my Dad is gone, and my Mom too, I appreciate everything they and their folks went through. I lived in rural West Africa for 9 years and many ways of life there parallel the lives of my fathers folks. I love Robert Duvall. He always plays the kind of cowboy gentleman that I could marry. He's handsome, wise and capable and not afraid of anything. He takes risks and is a good leader. he reminds me of my husband, I guess.

So, in tribute to my Dad, I'm watching it. I'm familiar with it, having seen bits of it before. It's going to be a memorable viewing.

I so love this movie that I made a facebook page out of it. come like it and add info to it. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate this movie 100!

I do like other westerns (Quigley Down Under and Maverick in particular) but this movies character with Gus and Woodrow are just wonderful.

I have seen this mini-series many times and I had rated it a 10. I am now 50 (woman) and I always liked John Wayne movies, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, etc. Lonesome Dove has so many interesting Characters and for all the reasons that you enjoyed the mini-series, that is how I felt too.

I am a fan of good TV. I'm not a genre snob. This was one of the best things TV has to offer. Great, great miniseries.
