Show has aged terribly

I liked it at the time, but in retrospect, it has aged really poorly. Urkel was a stereotypical "nice guy" who felt he was entitled to a relationship with Laura. He was really manipulative yet the audience nearly always sided with him. The later seasons were totally off the wall. There were a few decent serious episodes but otherwise the show is mostly unwatchable now. Perfect Strangers was much better.

LMAO...PERFECT STRANGERS.

Yes, it is true that the "dogged nice guy" trope was more alive in the 1990s than it is today. You seem to forget though that Steve did a lot of good things for the Winslows, and that Laura was very keen on drooling over guys, who were so much worse than Steve ever was.

It's true that Steve had his nice moments and Laura was kind of shallow and always got involved with losers who treated her badly, but she still has the right to date who she wants. Steve wasn't entitled to be with her just because he did nice things for her.

I believed that Laura kept rejecting Steve for eight years? So I don't see how she didn't have the right to date who she wanted. Then again, it is very much possible that the show would have been written a lot differently today. People would be far less forgiving of some of Steve's actions (even though I see him as socially tactless rather than a stalker). But still, I will never feel any kind of sympathy for that shallow and bitchy Laura. He should have just given up on her and let her ruin her life with her hunky "dream boys".
