MPAA was slightly more liberal then. Another good example is Big (1988) with Tom Hanks. In it there are 4 shlts, 1 f@ck, and a sex scene between an adult woman and a character who is 13, just in an adult's body. It was also PG.

shareIt's not surprising. Beetlejuice got a PG despite having both an f bomb and sexual content. The PG-13 did exist when this came out but was scarcely used.
