Did this movie kill Judge Reinhold's career?

Or was he never that good to begin with?

reply

I've always liked him, but he was always more of a supporting man than a lead. If you look at his big hits (Gremlins, Beverly Hills Cop, Ruthless People etc.), he was often a few names down the cast list.

Is he camp, or what? I can never decide.

Nah, Beverly Hills Cop 3 did the trick.

Looking back on that film, he did a great job in that film. I think he's more of a character/supporting actor than a leading man but for an expairament, at least for this film, he did a excellent job.

Since he and Jason Segel resemble each other, they should play father and son in a Judd Apatow movie.

I always liked Judge even if he was "that guy" in such and such.

I think he never fully realised his true potential. He was always typecast in these kind of roles

You do realize that the link you provided for your voting history just shows the voting history of the user who clicked it, right?

I think having a name like “Judge” killed his career.

I’m kidding.

I remember reading an article about Judge in a 1990 issue of Premiere Magazine, I think. He did a movie with Nic Cage that year called something like Zaldana or something like that. I don’t remember. But it was one of those supposedly “steamy” movies where the love scenes are ridiculous hot and heavy but only barely show anything of the actors. At least it was marketed as a movie like that, I never saw it. Heard it was better than you’d think. Anyway. The director quoted in the article believed Judge would have been a much more success actor except that while he had the face of a matinee idol (his words) he (Judge) is hindered by having the body of an over grown child. Again, my poor memory, I don’t remember the director. Babet Schroder maybe? Easy to find out on this site. I think he has a point. I could never take Judge seriously when he “mans up” in a role.

Having said that, I LOVED this movie when it came out. I even had a Vice Vera poster on my wall briefly, haha. I always collected posters from video stores. Soon gave way to Die Hard.

The film showed that he was not a leading man that film companies were going to invest millions of dollars in.

Its that man again!!

IMO, his performance in this movie is flawed but not bad. The weak link is in the beginning. I have a hard time buying him as this snooty businessman and uptight dad. Judge seems like a nice guy in his better roles, and he didn't do it for me. But when he finally changed bodies, he was childlike and funny. He did good as a kid in a man's body, not so much as the dad.
