Rewatched this last week. The concept is badass and the underlying story has potential but this movie just doesn't rise to the occasion. A bit flat and mediocre.
A great creature and a tale of the lengths one will go to get revenge. That's about all it has going for it.
Lacking in gore, sex appeal, humor and scares. Production values and acting are just okay. Generic unmemorable OST.
I want to like it more than I do but alas...
I disagree, a remake would more than likely suck these days and it doesn't need a crappy remake. I want to point out a few things you said:
"Lacking in gore".... this movie wasn't about the gore.
"sex appeal"..... this isn't trying to be Friday the 13th.
"humor and scares"......it had that, what are you talking about? Also, it's purely a horror film, not a horror/comedy.
"a bit flat and mediocre"...... not to me or most people, it's considered a cult horror classic for a reason.
"production values and acting are just okay. Generic unmemorable OST"..... what was generic about the score?
Judging by your comment you sound like you're too young for this movie and didn't grow up with it.
If you saw it when it was released in 1988, which sounds like..... you didn't, you'd know how terrifying it was at that time.... this was in the times of a nightmare on elm street all all of those slasher films.... the movie stands on its own..... a remake would be sacrilege.
My wife and I watch it every halloween, your mileage may vary.
