I'm kind of surprised that nobody has ever tried to adapt this into a weekly sitcom

I know that My Stepmother Is an Alien was considered a box office flop when it originally came out in 1988, but I always assumed that it has since then, amassed a bit of a cult following.

I can already imagine a TV series being something along the lines of a new age variation of those "magical girlfriend/wife" sitcoms from the 1960s like Bewitched and especially I Dream of Jeannie. Or it could be a gender flipped version of those "wacky extraterrestrials having to adapt to suburbia and earth culture" shows like My Favorite Martian and Mork and Mindy.

I always thought this was like a ripoff of My Favorite Martian, a sitcom from the 60s with the same premise just that instead of a "wife/stepmom" it was an "uncle".

As a kid I always thought Out of This World is a kind of sequel to this movie.
