good god this was awful!

But not even in a good 80s kitsch way - it was just plain awful!

Agree with the previous poster, I wouldn't go that far either.

I watched it when I was around ten, then re-watched it a few times, which means that I liked it for some reason. So, when I had an opportunity to watch it again yesterday, I seized it, pretty much out of curiosity. And... I kinda got why I liked it as a kid. The film is certainly not bright, most of what happens is pretty dumb, and not always intentionally, but it's dumb in a fun way, if you know what I mean, at least, to me. The movie isn't good, but at the same time is very likable, and not just because of the 80s kitsch vibe. There's Akroyd's performance, always a great comedian... there's Basinger, who isn't (wasn't ?) a good comedian, but on the other hand, is Basinger with her natural charm and that feeling of genuine kindness that makes her even more radiant... Jon Lovitz, enough said... there's also Bag, a dumb-but-funny idea (the only original element of the scenario)... oh, and there's the ADORABLE (and already the best cryer ever) Alyson Hannigan, who almost makes the movie worth watching by herself. :)

Anyway, again, I agree it's not a good movie, but putting aside my cynicism allowed me to kinda enjoy it for what it was, and I don't regret it.

Despite having Richard Benjamin as director, Kim Basinger, Dan Aykroyd, Jon Lovitz, Ann Prentiss and Alyson Hannigan as acting talent, the script is rife with logical errors.

The movie is not "fine". It is as watchable as a visit to the dentist. I hadn't seen this production since its release in 1988 and I was horrified at how cringe-worthy it was when it showed up on HBO Family last night.

I understand why this movie lost money. It is one of the most horrible travesties of Comedy of all time, and a stinker for Science Fiction.

They should have tried to make it "straight" instead of slap stick, that is no-one notices how absurd Celeste acts except Dr Steve.

This movie is a 100% miss. ZERO stars on any scale.

I think is one of the most touching human stories ever told in the big screen. I'm not even kidding, the way Celete learns about the mankind and experiences the grandest and most joyful human feelings, this is a poem to the human race. And the score makes it all even more beautiful and perfect.
